Meet Ahshia Cavin Bridal Hair and Makeup Artist Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ahshia Cavin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ahshia, what role has risk played in your life or career?

“As someone who has taken many risks over the course of my career, I’ve learned that having faith is so important when stepping out into the unknown. When I first made the huge leap to leave my stable corporate job and start my own business as a new mother, it was extremely scary not knowing if I would succeed or how I would provide for my family.

In those uncertain times, leaning on my faith in God gave me the courage and strength to take that risk. I believed that if I worked hard with integrity and let Him order my steps, it would all work out as it was meant to. And He has proven faithful time and time again. Whether it was building up my clientele in those early years, expanding my business, or taking on new challenges, putting my trust in the Lord above all else has allowed me to take risks confidently.

Even now, I still occasionally push myself outside my comfort zone professionally. But my faith sustains me and reminds me that as long as I seek His will, He will make a way. Risk-taking is much less daunting when you know you’re not alone in the process. Looking back, I see so clearly how God has guided my path and brought me through every obstacle. It is only by His strength and blessing that I’ve been able to achieve my career dreams while also raising my family. My faith is what gives me courage to keep growing.”

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

When I made the decision to leave my corporate job and pursue my dream of being a full-time makeup artist, it wasn’t easy. I was in my early 30s, a mother of a toddler, and very intimidated about venturing out on my own. Adding to the challenge was feeling insecure comparing myself to other beauty entrepreneurs onl social media who were younger with seemingly more followers and success.

But starting my own business allowed me the flexibility to be with my child while doing what I’m passionate about. I loved helping brides and clients feel confident through hair and makeup. It was fulfilling work that I viewed as a true ministry, using the gifts God gave me. So I chose to stop focusing on numbers or what others were doing, and concentrate on being my most authentic self.

While the transition wasn’t without struggles, I worked hard to build my skills and clientele. Over a decade later, I’ve developed a very successful business and have had the privilege of working with countless amazing women. What sets me apart is my heart for people and desire to make each client feel truly seen and valued. I also strive to stay innovative by continuously expanding my education.

My proudest moments have been witnessing how the confidence from one makeup application can positively impact a woman’s whole day or event. I’m also excited that my brand is now at a point where I can be more selective with clients while also mentoring up-and-coming artists.

Overall, my story shows that with passion, perseverance and faith, you can turn your dreams into reality – even with obstacles of life along the way.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I want to thank those who have loved and encouraged me throughout my career and life journey. To my brother Mitchell Chavers, thank you for your continued support and believing in me. To my best friend Tiffany Tenori, thank you for your unconditional sisterhood, prayers, and keeping our bond strong despite distance. I’m also grateful to Kristian Bailey-Gaines and Robbin Jackson for mentoring me in the early years of my career. My deepest gratitude goes to my husband for embracing my vision, encouraging me to take the leap of faith in pursuing my dreams, and for his unwavering love, support, and partnership. Finally, I want to acknowledge Sandra Heard for her spiritual coaching and guidance – for never judging, only showing me love and reminding me of my worth that comes from God. Your influences have all played a role in helping me achieve my goals.
